Starving? Check out Chikaan
March 5, 2009
Looking for rice-all-you-can treats? Chikaan is just one of the many restaurants that offer unlimited rice in Cebu. But more than the overflowing rice, the better treat is their collection of delicious, mouth-watering and true-to-the-heart Pinoy menu.
I know I should have taken a photo of what we ordered but we must have been too hungry then, my hubby and I just went ahead and digged in. We ordered pinakbet, dilis with ampalaya, crispy pata, and two fresh buko juices, all that for only 500 pesos. Next time, I’m making sure I try their Pochero (hmm..yummy!)
Chikaan is one of the oldest restaurants in Cebu offering all-time Filipino food. It has almost the same offerings as Golden Cowrie. In fact I think they are owned by the same family (feel free to correct me here). You can find them at SM Cebu City Northwing and at Juan Osmena Street, Cebu City.
Experiencing Siam Thai Cuisine
November 29, 2008
Once you get in the Siam Thai Cuisine door in Ayala’s New Terraces, you’ll see all the obvious similarities it has with Krua Thai restaurant in SM Cebu City – mainly the water goblets and the menu. The moment we got in, we concluded they’re owned by the same person. It’s probably a sister restaurant or something, but why change the name at all? I mean Krua Thai has probably earned its reputation by now. Why risk using a new name?
Anyway – so as expected (based on my experience at Krua Thai, which I plan post later), the food was rich, delicious and terrific! Real Thai food cooking. I’m not sure about the price though. I think it’s almost the same. They have the same list of specialties. Appetizers cost around a hundred twenty plus each (in pesos), but these can be eaten as main dishes, too. Their main dishes cost around PhP180-250, which are good for two people. For two, you may need to set a budget of around PhP500-600 if you’re planning on a full meal.
Some of my favorites are the spicy prawn, tom yam soup, but my husband likes the four seasons vegetables and all spicy stuff they have. What I like most about the food in Krua and Siam Thai is the touch of smooth tamarind taste with the wonderful aroma and taste of herbs and lemon grass, which I think they use on almost all their dishes.
Generally, the food and service were both good, our expectations were met. However, the price is definitely not for a regular day meal. Also, there was just one little tiny thing that was not fitting – while we were eating, the music playing on the background was… Copacabana! Maybe somebody from Siam Thai could check that out.
